This two week workshop will provide participants the opportunity to work with games as a tool for rehearsing and performing text.  Jim Calder, head of physical acting at NYU Grad Acting, will lead a series of games and exercises that are designed to reveal habits, increase expressivity, and strengthen belief in a set of circumstances.  Jim will then connect those games to each participant's scene - enlivening the text with the experiences from class, so that each performance remains alive, engaged, and spontaneous. In this workshop, we are particularly interested in the moments “in between”. What motives a character to speak? How do actors make sharp turns in logic?

Each actor will leave the workshop with innovative tools for rehearsing and performing text. Scenes will be assigned the week prior to the workshop. If you’ve ever struggled to “get out of your head” during your scene work, this class is sure to provide participants the opportunity to follow their instincts without second guessing! Jim is well know for helping his students identify and challenge their own self imposed boundaries. Come join us and see how far you can go!
