SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
In collaboration with Spymonkey, we are very excited to offer one full, need based, diversity scholarship for this two-week course. If you would like to be considered for the scholarship please check the box on the enrollment form that inquires about scholarship interest. Please note, you will also be considered for partial scholarships in the case that you are not selected for the full tuition scholarship.
**If tuition is an obstacle and you do not receive a scholarship, we are happy to arrange a payment plan. It is our hope that tuition will not be an obstacle for any performer wishing to attend this special workshop.
In this two-week long intensive, participants will be asked to bring their hearts and imaginations - open, willing, and curious - into a series of games that are designed to shine a light on their most authentic comedic potential.
The first week of class will be dedicated to ensemble building and the exploration of games, play, and failure: glorious failure, painful failure, bewildering failure, messy failure, boring failure, hysterical failure, risky failure, tearful failure, vibrant failure, hilarious failure, and big, huge flop failure. And also what is means to find success as a comedic performer / clown! There will be sweet, sweet, gorgeous, poetic, elated success. No matter which, the delicate world of the clown teaches each performer to be courageous, make a generous proposal, risk everything, and embrace their inner fool.
The seconds week of the this workshop, the ensemble will begin to devise short clown and comedic pieces. Aitor & Toby will direct the pieces, and lead each performer through the process of developing work. Each actor will uncover their own personal process and should leave this phase of the workshop with a foundation for creating comedic material, plus a rich arsenal of material that has the potential to continue to develop as well as a group of generous collaborators.
Join us! Come play, and discover the gorgeous idiot you didn't know you were! (This is a very special offering at the NYDC. We have received an overwhelming amount of interest. If you are interested in class, don’t wait to sign up!)
