Join us for a long weekend of games, play, and Lazzis! A brand new class offering!

In this special physical theatre workshop, Jim Calder, head of physical acting at NYU Grad Acting, will lead a series of games and exercises that are designed to reveal habits, expand physical and emotional expressivity, and strengthen belief in imaginary circumstances.  As the workshop progresses, Jim will assign Lazzis for each workshop participants.

Taken from Commedia dell’Arte, Lazzis are a wonderful exploration for all kinds of performers, from clowns to serious dramatic actors. Lazzis offer performers the opportunity to fully explore circumstances, engage with logic, play with rhythm, confidently improvise, build a physical comedy routine, and sharpen their imaginations!

This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to work with games as a tool for rehearsing and performing material - whether there is scripted text, the blueprint of a scene, or simply an idea. As games evolve into choreographed Lazzis, participants are sure to find themselves surprised and delighted! Come play! Come expand! Come learn about how to create and live through a Lazzi!

If you’ve ever struggled to “get out of your head” as an actor or performer, this class is sure to provide participants the opportunity to follow their instincts without second guessing! Jim is well know for helping his students identify and challenge their own self imposed boundaries. Come join us and see how far you can go!
